No vocab. found.

Bobby was able to save Eelong from a disease from another territory even though the flume there was destroyed since Mark and Courtney had to go through it to save Eelong. Now Gunny and Spader are trapped for the time being.

Pendragon Book Five: Black Water by D.J. MacHale. Genre: Adventure Fiction. Pages read: 112 ( 55 mins)

The words I chose are tensile, obligatory, exertion and bantering. Tensile means sufficiently ductile to be stretched or drawn out. Obligatory means required to be done, obtained, possessed, etc. Exertion means strenuous effort. Bantering means cleverly amusing in tone.

This time, Bobby had to go to Eelong. Gunny was supposed to be just looking at what they were going to be up against since Saint Dane was going there next. But he didn't come back, so Bobby has to go. He finds out that the quigs are humans, and humans are primitive and not the superior life forms! Instead, big cats that don't have a tail, talk, and can walk on their hind legs are. Some keep humans as pets and they are even thinking about taking back a law that allows them to eat humans! There is not enough food to supply the growing population of people, so that is why. But then the Traveler from Eelong comes to Second Earth and dies of poisoning, just like the poison on Cloral. So now Mark and Courtney can go to different territories since the rules have changed and the walls between the territories are crumbling. They are about to go to Cloral for the antidote.
I think that it might be a bad idea if Mark and Courtney travel to Cloral because they are not supposed to. But they might be able to save Eelong if they do. So it might work. I hope nothing bad happens.

Pendragon Book Four: The Reality Bug. Pages read: 246 (2 hours)

There were no vocab. words I didn't know.

To stop the Reality Bug, they had to go wake up the creator of Lifelight, who's now 76, and have him stop it. They stopped it just as it was coming out the virtual world into the real one and turned off Lifelight. Then the directors of Lifelight put it back on. The main director who made it come back on turned out to be Saint Dane in disguise. So now Veelox will continue to crumble and he won his first territory.

I hope that Saint Dane won't get anymore territories because he said that once he gets one, the others will fall easily, like dominoes. I can't wait to read the next one. I was waiting for this one for months. This is quite the awesome series.

Pendragon Book Four: The Reality Bug by D.J. MacHale. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 129 (70 mins)

The words I chose are anticipation, arrogant, taunt and implore. Anticipation is an expectation. Arrogant means Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance. Taunt means to reproach in a mocking, insulting, or contemptuous manner. Implore means to ask earnestly or piteously for; supplicate; beg.

Bobby went to a territory named Veelox. They found out a way to go into their dream world by using computers. Actually, it was an ingenious ten year old boy who created it. It's called Lifelight Another Traveler named Aja made a thing called a Reality Bug to try and stop Lifelight because everyone was leaving Veelox to crumble so they can live in their own fantasies. But Saint Dane had done something to make the Reality Bug even more better than they thought, so it  took your fears, put them into Lifelight, and if it hurts you, you actually get hurt just like this one person got killed.

I wonder if they will be able to stop the Reality Bug? Maybe Saint Dane will finally have his first victory. I don't think so but maybe. I'm going to get the next book since I'm almost done with this one.

Here Lies Arthur. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 20 (45 mins)

The words I chose are desolation, infallibility, discernible and masques. Desolation means the state of being abandoned or forsaken; loneliness. Infallibility is the quality of never making an error. Discernible means perceptible, as by the faculty of vision or the intellect. Masques means a dramatic entertainment, usually performed by masked players representing mythological or allegorical figures, that was popular in England in the 16th and early 17th centuries.

Arthur and his troop went to a village so they could offer their protection for gold. While there, they met the widow of one of Arthur's dead friends. She let them stay there for a while and Gwyn met a little girl who was really a boy! He was the widow's last and only surviving son. She pretended that he was a girl so that way he wouldn't have to go and die fighting. Then they came up with an idea to find out if the priest was keeping their money saying that he was getting rid of it. They found out that he did and Arthur took all the gold for their protection.

I have to now return the book to the library. It is due. I liked this book a bit. Not too much but a bit. I wonder why the author wanted to show the dark side of Arthur.

The Haunted Auditorium by R.L. Stine. Genre: Horror/Sci-Fi. Pages read: 119 ( 45 mins)

The words I chose are emphasis, brief, prefer and props. Emphasis is special forcefulness of expression that gives importance to something singled out; stress. Brief means short in time, duration, length, or extent. Prefer means to choose or be in the habit of choosing as more desirable or as having more value. Props are a theatrical property.

This is about Jenny and Michael. They made the main parts in a school play that hasn't been done for over 70 years. Everyone claims it's haunted because a kid died in it. Then a new kid comes to school named Brian. They think that the ghost was ruining the play writing Stay Away From My Home Sweet Home on the props. Then they find out a hobo was living under the stage. He ran away and they did the play. Then Brian turned out to be the kid from over 70 years ago who died in the play. He came back and played the main part as a ghost after knocking out Michael. Then he explained that he died by falling through the trapdoor. When Jenny was about to take off his mask, he backed away and fell into the trapdoor again. Everyone thought that it was part of the play, and when Jenny and Michael went to look for the body, it was gone.

I think that this is another book with a strange ending. It was very unexpected. I think that Brian has finally found peace. He just had to die again after finishing the play. Very weird.

Stop The Sun by Gary Paulsen. Genre: Historical Fiction. Pages read:9 ( 25 mins)

The words I chose are veteran, persisted, involvement and afterthought. A veteran is a person who served in the armed forces, such as the navy, air force, or army. Persisted means refused to give up; continued in a stubborn way. Involvement means the act of being a part of or taking part in something. An afterthought is an idea that occurs or comes to mind later.

I read this for English. It's about a boy named Terry and his dad who has Vietnam Syndrome. His dad always stares off into space, lost in a memory. Terry decides to find out what's wrong with him after he finds him crying and crawling on his stomach in a hardware store and he gets embarrassed to be around him. He asks him when his mom's at the store since she doesn't like him talking about it. He says that he was the only one to survive an attack on his group. He had to hide under the only half of his dead friend's body that was left to survive. Terry will now try harder to understand his dad's pain.

I think that Terry will be able to understand his dad a bit more. He will also not be afraid to be around him. He will not be embarrassed around him too. I wouldn't either.

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. Genre: Fiction. Pages read:7 (20 mins)

The words I chose are mock, rouse, suspicion and mutilated. Mock means to imitate; counterfeit. Rouse means to excite, as anger or action; stir up. Suspicion means the act of suspecting something, especially something wrong, on little evidence or without proof. Mutilate means to deprive of a limb, essential part, etc.; maim; dismember.

I read this in English. It's about an old man who has a glazed over eye and another man who thinks it's an Evil Eye.The man hates it. So he plans to kill him. After waiting for about a week and building up his nerve, he sneaks into his room, pushes his bed on top of him, and waits for his heart to stop beating. He chops up his body and hides it under the floorboards. Then the police come over saying that the neighbor reported a scream. They question him and he's calm and shows them around the house. Eventually, while they sat and talked, the man started to hear something. It got louder and louder until he could take it no more. He burst out saying, "Mock me no more! I did it! Here, here is the body! Under the floorboards! It is the beating of his hideous heart!"

This was a weird story. How could his heart be beating if he's dead?! On top of that, he's chopped up! Maybe it's the guilt getting to him. The author is a good writer.

HLTQ ( High Level Thinking Question ): List 3-5 reasons why someone should or should not read this book:
I think that someone should read this book if they like strange fiction books. The author who wrote it had a sad life. So he wrote sad stuff. Or mainly stuff about death. If you like that kind of stuff, then read his books, including this one.

15th blog! Shock On Shocker Street by R.L. Stine. Genre: Sci-Fi/ Horror. Pages read: 117 ( 45 mins )

The words I chose were horrified, slump, flutter and hypnotize. Horrified means stricken with fear. Slump means to droop, as in sitting or standing; slouch. Flutter means to fly by a quick light flapping of the wings. Hypnotize means to put into a trance.

This is about a boy named Marty and a girl named Erin. Erin's dad, Mr. Wright, can do anything with robots and he lets Marty and Erin test ride the Shock Street tour. The Shock Street movies are terrifying movies that they love. The monsters are too real though once they start going and the ride stops in a cave full of giant praying mantis'! Erin and Marty barely escape and have to go through Shock Street itself to try to get out. They run into a graveyard full of zombies and they have to run from werewolves. Then a so called "director" tells them to go through a house to get out. Erin realizes he's a robot a moment to late. When Marty goes in the house, he gets electricuted! Erin runs to save him and thinks she sees her dad. She doesn't recognize him and she starts making weird sounds. Then a real man comes to her dad and says "It looks like your robot children malfunctioned, Mr. Wright." Apparently, Erin's memory chip wore out and Marty shorted out. They were testing the ride before real people went on it to make sure everything worked right.

These books have weird endings. I would never had thought that Erin and Marty were robots! I guess Mr. Wright really can do anything with robots. They didn't even know that they weren't really humans.

My Hairiest Adventure by R.L. Stine. Genre: Horror/ Sci-Fi Pages read: 118 ( 45 mins. )

The words I chose are glimpse, announce, jagged and scramble. Glimpse means a momentary or partial view. Announce means to give information about. Jagged means with rough, sharp points protruding. Scramble means to move hurriedly or clumsily.

This is about a boy named Larry. He and his friends find some Insta-Tan lotion and they rub it all over themselves but nothing happens until Larry starts growing thick, black, ugly hair that keeps growing back even after he shaves it off. Then his friend Manny moves without saying goodbye and next his friend Lily. He found a stray dog that had a gold coin around its neck like Lily did and a green eye and a blue eye. He thinks it's Lily but then it runs away. Then he finally is able to show his parents the hair that's growing after a concert and they tell him that he's really a dog. His doctor found a serum that can turn dogs into human children for a little while. Larry then finds Lily and Manny as dogs. The story ends where his former parents bring home a baby with big yellow eyes named Jasper, which was the name of their cat.

I wonder what would happen if R.L. Stine continued this into a next book. I don't think he will though. If he did then eventually Jasper would have to find out that she's a cat and she would meet Larry. That would be very strange.

Here Lies Arthur Pages read: 23 ( 45 mins )

The words I chose are console, glare, bitterly and russet. Console means to allay the sorrow or grief. Glare means to stare fixedly and angrily. Bitterly means with bitterness; in a resentful manner. Russet means a moderate to strong brown or a coarse reddish-brown to brown homespun cloth.

Gwyna has learned how to be a girl. She was staying with a woman for the summer that Myrddin knew. She stayed there and learned how to weave and embroider. She also learned how to walk and talk like women do. Women aren't allowed to talk to men unless if talked to first. She is now heading back to Aquae Sulis with Myrddin.

I think that Gwyna might forget to act like a girl. She might forget and everyone will think that she's a freak. She probably won't fit in. That is what will probably happen next.

La Relacion by Juan Suarez. Genre: Historical Non-fiction. Pgs. read: 4 (15 mins)

The words I chose are commissary, friar, insistent and proceed. A commissary is a person to whom a special duty is given by a higher authority; a deputy. A friar is a member of a usually mendicant Roman Catholic. Insistent means repetitive and consistent. Proceed means to go forward or onward, especially after an interruption; continue.

I read this in History. It's about Commissary Friar Juan Suarez and a group of people who came to America to try and live off the land. They found out they couldn't and almost died. They had to cross rivers, brave the storms and find food until they found some Native Americans who would help them find the city Apalachee, and they would help them take over the city because they don't like the Natives there. Commissary Friar Juan Suarez's group went from 300 to 4 Mr. Knarr said by the time they got to Apalachee.

I think that this is cooler than Christopher Columbus' letter because it's not exaggerated. It's a true story of how a group of Spaniards came to try and settle lands in America but couldn't live off the land. It is cool how only a few survived. I guess it's not cool how many died, but how they survived.

THE FISRT BLOG FOR THIS WEEK WAS NOVEMBER 12TH'S BECAUSE I ACCIDENTLY PUBLISHED IT.

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read: 12

The words I chose are straggle, plunder, martyrdom, and wary. Straggle means to stray or fall behind. Plunder means to rob of goods by force, especially in a time of war; pillage. Martyrdom means great suffering or torment. Wary means watchful or on guard.

Arthur has come to a city called Aquae Sulis and he saved them from the Saxons who were attacking them. He is now going to marry the woman who's husband ruled the city but died in the battle. Gwyn traveled with Myrddin in the winter and he said that she will have to be a girl again. She says that she doesn't want to, but she will still stay in Aquae Sulis and become one of Arthur's wife's waiting woman.

I think that someone will find out that Gwyna was pretending to be Gwyn. They might see how alike they look and how Gwyn has gone away. They might ask what happened to Gwyn and who Gwyna is. That would be bad news for Myrddin if they found out.

THE FIRST BLOG OF THIS WEEK WAS NOVEMBER 12TH'S BECAUSE I ACCIDENTLY PUBLISHED IT.

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read: 10

The vocabulary words I chose are grim, grudgingly, cleave and pewter. Grim means unrelenting; rigid. Grudgingly means reluctant; unwilling. Cleaves means to split with or as if with a sharp instrument. Pewter is any of numerous silver-gray alloys of tin with various amounts of antimony, copper, and sometimes lead, used widely for fine kitchen utensils and tableware.

It's been a summer since Gwyna has to pretend she's a boy. She's almost forgotten that she's a girl. Arthur is collecting taxes from people who still act like the old Romans. Arthur was collecting from one of them who said he already paid and Arthur beat him up. He said that they needed a strong ruler to protect them from the Saxons. Later they ran into a group of people who were sent by the Roman people's king.

I think that they might get into a fight with the king. Then they might take over his kingdom and get all of his gold and whatnot. It said that this book shows the dark side of Camelot. I agree.

THIS IS FOR NEXT WEEK! I ACCIDENTLY PUBLISHED IT BEFORE IT WAS READY

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read: 11

The words I chose are reputation, glower, sulky, and tribute. Reputation means how people see you or what they've heard about you, like whether you are good or bad, or mean or nice, or brave or cowardly. Glower means to stare hard and angrily. Sulky means gloomy; dismal. Tribute means a gift, payment, declaration, or other acknowledgment of gratitude, respect, or admiration.

Myrddin is telling stories about Arthur. Right now he's talking about how a green man who wants to see Arthur's bravery. He lets Arthur cut off his head if he can cut off Arthur's the next day. Arthur cuts off his head and the next day, the green man comes back. Arthur bravely sticks to his word. The green man doesn't cut off his head and knows that Arthur is as brave as he's heard.

I think that Myrddin makes up most of the stories about Arthur to protect his reputation. I also think that Gwyn will have to be a girl again soon. I hope that Arthur will pull the sword out of the stone soon. Unless he did already. Oh well.

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read:11

Gwyn is getting used to being a boy and likes it a bit better than a girl, since the chores you do are easier or there's not as much to do. Arthur's war band has just beat another war band who's leader said that he was the best. After Arthur beat him, he stuck his head on the side of his saddle until it stunk too bad for him. They are talking about their gods. Arthur's war band has mostly Christians, but some believe in the old gods. They all make tributes to all of their gods, though.

This book is a good book. I think that Gwyn will have to fight soon.

The word I chose was grovel. Govel means to be nice to someone or apologize in the hope of securing something.

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read:8

Gwyna's boy name is Gwyn and she met a boy named Bedwyr who is really nice. Gwyn said that she came from Armorica and that the Saxons killed her family. Bedwyr feels sorry for her and Gwyn also says that Myrrdin is her godfather, which isn't true. They have to go clean the horse stalls which Gwyn doesn't know how even though she says she does. Arthur still thinks that he saw a lady in the lake.

I might have to return this to the library soon and I haven't been reading a lot lately so I might not be able to read it all.

The word I chose was summon. Summon means to call up. Ex: He summoned the spirits of the mansion.

Goosebumps: The Cuckoo Clock of Doom by R.L. Stine. Genre: Sci-Fi/Horror. Pages read:

This book is about a boy named Michael. He has a little sister named Tara who ruins everything for him. His dad gets a cuckoo clock that Tara loves to hang around, so he decides to try to get her in trouble by turning the cuckoo's head backwards. But after he does that, time starts going backwards and he starts to get younger! He's barely able to get to the clock so he can change the cuckoo, but he does and he's back to being 12 years old again. Only one thing's missing: Tara! He might go back and get her someday. Maybe.

I like Goosebump books and R.L. Stine horror books. I've read a few of his books and they are also good.

The word I chose was disconcerting. Disconcerting means tending to cause discomfort or alarm.

Here Lies Arthur. Pages read: 28

The person standing over Gwyna is named Myrrdin and he carries her to the place he's staying at. She decides to stay with him. He works with Arthur and they need to get some Irishmen on their side so she goes to a lake while Arthur goes in with all his armor on. He wades in deep and when he sees Gwyna, he thinks she's a goddess. She hands him a sword from Myrrdin and the Irishmen see her do it so they think a goddess did it too. Arthur gets them on his side then and Gwyna has to pretend she's a boy warrior so that no one knew that it was her who handed Arthur the sword. In a few years, it'll be unmistakeable that she's a girl but by then no one will suspect her.

I think that she will meet Arthur soon and that some one might suspect that she's a girl.

The word I chose was blunder. Blunder means:
noun
a clumsy or embarrassing mistake verb
to make a stupid mistake
to move blindly or clumsily

Here Lies Arthur by Philip Reeve. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read:

This book is good so far. A girl named Gwyna just had her village burnt down. She was a slave and her master got killed. She thinks it's weird that a war has started in winter and it's unseasonal. She fell in a river while running from some angry boy who almost killed her. She let the freezing cold water take her down river to a safer part where there is no fighting. The chapter ended where she was curled up on the ground trying to keep warm and someone had stopped beside her but she didn't look up.

I wonder who the person is? I wonder if they are bad or good? I think that the person is a good guy.

The word I chose was jarred. the jarred in the book means:
v. jarred, jar·ring, jars
v.int
1.To shake or shiver from impact.
v.tr.
1. To bump or cause to move or shake from impact.
2. To startle or unsettle; shock.

Midnight for Charlie Bone: Children of the Red King Book 1 by Jenny Nimmo. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 401

A boy named Charlie Bone has a power to hear what's happening inside of a photograph. He's a descendant of the Red King. So he has to go to a school where all of the other kids like him go. He and his friends save a girl that was hypnotized by a mean guy named Manfred. She was stolen as a baby but now lives with her only living relative. She can also fly.

I got this book from the Eddy Street Book Exchange and am going to probabaly get the next one because I like these.

Christopher Columbus, Letter to Luis de Sant' Angel (1493) by Mr. Knarr. Genre: Historical Non-Fiction. Pages read: 4

Christopher Columbus is writing this letter to Parliment and exaggerates so that they know that they funded him for a reason, including the three boats and the crews. He exaggerates a bit on describing the New World because he describes it as lush and beautiful, which it is, but he makes it sound like a fairy tale land. He says that the Native Americans which he calls Indians since he thinks he's in India, are very nice and believe that he came from heaven with his crew. He says that there is countless gold and mountains to mine along with exotic spices. There are also no monsters that he can see though the Native Americans said that there were others on another isle that eat human flesh and steal. But they were probably just saying that so that Christopher Columbus would stay. It said that he made a city called the City of Navidad.

This was not my favorite thing to read but it was interesting to see what happened and what Christopher Columbus said.

The word I chose was thither. Thither means: adverb
to that place (seldom used except in poetry or legal papers).
He went hither and thither

The first for second quarter The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme: The Dragon's Lair by Emily Haydon. Illustrations by Bret Helquist. Pages read: 372

Ven was able to make peace with the dragon named Scarnag, which means scourge. His real name was Garnax and the Nain from the Northlands brought him to save him from a great evil and since dragons love knowledge and they hoard it, he would preserve their history. But they trapped him in a cave even though it was for his own good, or so they thought. But family is more important than anything to dragons, and they betrayed him. So when they finally found what used to be Garnax, he laid waste to their villages. He said that he will stop if the Nain would say sorry. They did and the book ends where Ven is about to go under water with Amariel and explore her world.

I am going to find out when the next book is coming out called The Tree of Water. I wonder what happens when he's under water with her?

The word I chose was inhabitant. An inhabitant is the people or animals that live in an area. ex: The inhabitants of the village are Native Americans.

Pendragon: The Never War by D.J. MacHale.Genre: Fantasy Pages read: 336

This book is the third in a series. Bobby Pendragon is trying to stop Saint Dane, the bad guy, from making the blimp Hindenberg from not going down on May 6 1937. If that happens, then the Nazi's will get the technology to create a nuclear bomb! Then life will end for many people all over the world. Luckily, he was able to drive a 1937 car to where the blimp crashes and tries to blow it up with the guy who was going to but can't since 36 people will die in 37 seconds. He's about to stop it when his friend nicknamed Gunny stops him. Then the miniature rocket filled with flammable stuff flew up to the blimp and blew it up. They were able to stop Saint Dane this time, but next time they might not be so lucky.

These books are good and I'm waiting for the next one to get to the library.

The word I chose was dumbfounded. Dumbfounded means stupified or flabbergasted. He was dumbfounded by her large vocabulary.

The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme: The Thief Queen's Daughter by Elizabeth Haydon. Illustrations by Brett Helquist. Pages read: all

The king wants to send Ven to the Gated City, a.k.a., the City of Thieves. But first he fires him as the Royal Reporter because he can't be responsible for anything that happens to him there. He wants Ven to discover the secret of a glowing stone that glows a bright gold whenever it gets close to the king. Ven agrees and Char, Ida, Clemency, and Saeli go with him. When they go inside, a fortuneteller tells Ven that someone is watching him from afar by using the albatross. Ven also got the Time Scissors from the fortuneteller, which allows him to undo a part of history but can come with consequences. They also met a weapon salesman who gave them a glove that has all sorts of contraptions in it. While they were looking for someone who can tell them about the glowing stone, Saeli got stolen! They went to the Raven's Nest where the Thief Queen resides to look for her. She wasn't there, but it turns out that Ida is her daughter! She was able to find Saeli and escape before the Thief Queen married her to someone from the north. They met some people from underground called Downworlders. They said that the stone was called the Lightstone and it was actually a map to lead the king there as an invitation. They said that it glowed brighter for the king to show their loyalty to him since one of his forefathers was kind to them. Then they told the children how to get out of the underground so they could go home. The king then asked Ven to go see why a dragon was burning the countryside and the book ended there.

The next book is called The Dragon's Lair. I'm gong to read it soon.

The word I chose is intervene. Intervene means to interfere or inturrupt. ex: He intervened in their argument.

The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme: The Floating Island. Pages read: 332

The ship that Ven was Inspecting was blown up by Ven when he was trying to blow up the Fire Pirates, which are ruthless pirates that never leave their victims alive. They both got blown up and Ven almost drowned but a mermaid like person called a merrow saved him. Her name was Amariel. She kept him alive by finding him water to drink and telling him stories. An albatross was spotted by a ship named the Serelinda because the albatross was following him and circling his life boat. The Serelinda's captain Oliver took him on board and sailed him to an island named Serendair. He made a friend named Char who was the cook's assistant. You can guess why they call him Char. Just before they got there, the Floating Island appeared! Ven got to go on the island and if you take anything, the island will be unbalanced. They got to go to the middle of the island and the captain took some water from the middle of the mountain that was really rare called the Life Water. He put it in a diamond vial and poured out some blue water that was as rare as the Life Water and just as hard to find. So he traded with the mountain and it wasn't unbalanced. When they got to Serendair, Ven and Char stayed in Oliver's wife's inn where kids with nowhere else to go stay. He also had to take the Life Water to his wife. There was an evil around the inn that Ven, Char, and their new friends Clemency, who is a curate-in-training, Ida, who pickpockets people without them knowing and she's not very nice, and Saeli, who rarely speaks in words and usually speaks in flowers since she can make them grow. They were able to get rid of the evil and save everyone. Ven also got a job with the king as his Royal Reporter since the king liked him, believed him, and didn't want him in jail while he was gone.

I am now going to read the next book all over the weekend. It looks really cool. My friend was right: these are good books!

The word I chose was recognized. Recognized means that you know someone or something or they look familiar to you.

The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme: The Floating Island by Elizabeth Hayden. Illustrations by Brett Helquist. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 32

This book is about a boy named Charles Magnus Ven Polypheme who is in a prison in a castle waiting for his sentence. All he can do is write in his cell. He's writing about what happened before he got there. He is fifty years old and it's his birthday. He is a Nain and they are pretty much like dwarves. His family lives above land making ships. The Nain live about four times longer than humans so he is about 12 or 13 years old in human years he said. He strangely hasn't grown a beard yet because Nain usually grow beards at 30 years old and he's tall for a Nain. He's about 5 feet tall. He's going to inspect the ship his family recently made for a guy named Mr. Witherspoon by sailing it with a crew of men and Mr. Witherspoon. Before he took off, his father gave him a jack-rule, which is an expandable ruler that belonged to his great-grandfather. It is the most accurate measuring device. It includes a knife and a magnifying glass that also acts as a telescope. He's about to take off after giving his father a hug.

I like this book. My friend recommended it. I wonder how he gets to the island? I think he either crashes on it or gets taken to it.

The Fire Eternal by Chris D'Lacey. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 506

I finished the book even though it took me all day to read it. It has been 5 years since everyone thought that David died. David wasn't really dead though. Gawain's fire became the ice, so he got some of his fire in him when he got stabbed He went to the universe of the Fain and learned a ton with Ingavar. He can now turn into any animal and he teamed up with two polar bears. He also got Gawain's eye from the ocean and unfroze Gwillana who now doesn't have her powers to watch over his daughter Alexa. Lucy met someone named Tam who she has a crush on. She was taken to an island and forced to make something called a Darkling out of a flexible obsidian for the Ix that kills dragons. Then she was sent back and Tam tried to destroy it but it disappeared before he could. It started snowing and he extended his arms. Two snowflakes shaped like polar bears landed on each of his palms and his eyes changed from blue to brown. At the end of the story, Zanna takes Alexa for a walk in the library gardens and they meet David there. Suddenly, there was a flash of violet overhead and Alexa asked what it was. David said that it was an angel of some sort even though he knew that dragons were on Earth yet again

This is an awesome story! I want to read the next book when it comes out. I want to now what will happen next.

Fire Star. Pages read: 401

The end of the book is pretty sad. David saves everyone and Liz marries a guy named Arthur. She loved him a long time a go but Gwillana got him away. He is also blind because he got attacked by an evil alien being that live in another universe. They are called the Ix. The Fain are the good version of them. The Fain can "commingle", or join bodies since their bodies are invisible. Lucy got saved by David and the polar bears. One of the Ix commingled with an Inuit hunter and speared David in the heart with an ice spear. He died but gave Zanna an invisible dragon that isn't real. A brave polar bear named Ingavar or something like that died with him because the Ix made him sink an island with Gawain's petrified body in it. The dragon Grockle was infuriated and found his fire. He burned Ingavar down to the bone. After David died, everyone went back to the house. At home, they found out that Zanna was pregnant!

I wonder if David is really dead since he's the main character? Well, I'm going to read the next book now all day.

The word I chose was infuriated. Infuriated means that you're really really really really really really really really mad.

I Just Kept On Smiling by Simon Burt. Genre: Pages read: 9

I read this story for English. It's about a boy who went to a Catholic boarding school. It was his birthday and he turned twelve. He didn't tell anyone that it was his birthday and threw away his card from his elder brother and his parents. Only his friend Nicky Carver knew. Later, in Latin class, he stole three exercise books and hid them in the Chapel where not many people go. The teacher didn't know who did it so he made the whole class stand during the lesson. The school bully, Timothy Pigott, said that he saw him take the books. He made him say it later to the teacher Dom Francis. He didn't believe him. So at the next class, he had to beat everyone eight times with an old leather slipper. He thought that Timothy did it, so he beat him ten times. Later, his parents came to visit him and Nicky's came to visit Nicky. His parents said that he had to go to Nicky's on the holidays without asking him. After his parents left, he ripped up the exercise books, flushed them down the toilet, and he stole Timothy's tennis eye shade. He decided that he didn't want it, so he put it back. Nicky must've seen him, because he stared at him until lights out. The next day, Dom Francis said that the culprit had come out, and at lunch Nicky Carver was standing to attention with a necklace saying 'Thief". When he looked at him, he didn't eat anything. He just kept on smiling.

I enjoyed this story even though I don't like what the main character happen to his friend.

Fire Star by Chris D'Lacey. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 148

This continues after Icefire. David and Zanna are in the arctic. They are studying ice and global warming. At the house, an invisible dragon named Groyne let Gretel out of a cage she was kept in because they couldn't trust her. He came in through the chimney and Mr. Bacon said he thought he heard a bird. David erased his story and broke up with Zanna because they were mad at each other and David is keeping things from her. Gwillana took Lucy when that happened and David came back. Just before he did, Gretel was trying to do something to Grockle by lighting his basket on fire and burning a flower. Before the fire was done burning the flower, G'reth breathed in the flames. Then he floated into the air and disappeared in a blinding flash of light!

I wonder what will happen to G'reth? I have no idea. Maybe he's destroyed. I hope not.

The word I chose was bewildered. Bewildered means astounded or really surprised.

Warriors: Power of Three: Sunrise Pages read: 84

I have finally finished the book. The Three found out who their mother and father are. It was Leafpool, their medicine cat, which medicine cats are not allowed to have kits, and Crowfeather, who is from WindClan. Also, it turns out that Hollyleaf killed Ashfur. She announced who her parents were at the Gathering, and everyone is surprised. Back at camp, Leafpool resigns as the medicine cat, and Hollyleaf runs into a tunnel while trying to escape ThunderClan since her dreams got crushed, and her brothers were trying to stop her. Then, the tunnel collapses on her and kills her. Her brothers say that she chased a squirrel into the tunnel so no one knows she killed Ashfur and she was running away. Another cat who was related to Firestar had two kits named Dovekit and Ivykit, so there were still at least three for the prophecy!

The next series will hopefully be out soon. At least there will be another! I like the author of these books. She's pretty good.

The word I chose was resign. Resign means to quit or retire, as above.

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Genre: Science Fiction. pages read: 9

The year was 2081 in the story "Harrison Bergeron" and everybody was finally equal. But they were also equal in intelligence, strength, and every quality and attribute. The smart people had to wear handicaps which were government microphones that every 20 seconds or so would make a really loud noise so you wouldn't think to much. George Bergeron had one of these. His wife, Hazel Bergeron, had perfectly average intelligence, which meant she didn't need one. In April, the month no one likes, their 14 year-old son, Harrison Bergeron, got taken away by the Handicap General's men. A bit later, they were watching ballerinas on T.V. and an announcement came up saying that he escaped. It showed a picture of him being 7 feet tall, and wearing a clown nose, a bunch of metal scraps, giant headphones, and thick, wavy glasses to humiliate him and make him half-blind. Suddenly, the T.V. studio starts to shake, and Harrison rips the door of it's hinges and comes in. He rips off all of the scrap metal off of him, and everything else too. He looked so stunning, he would've even amazed Thor, the god of thunder. He bellows,"I am the Emperor! Everyone must do as I say at once!" He then chooses his Empress and takes off her handicaps and made the musicians play the best music they had. They danced up to the ceiling and kissed it. Then, the Handicap General Diana Moon Glampers barges in with a double barreled 10 gauge shotgun and killed them both. Everyone had to put their handicaps back on and forgot what happened. THE END.

I read this story in English class and I liked it. I want to know why the author made the story end the way it did. Also, I hope that what happened in the story doesn't happen in real life. That would SUCK!!!!

The vocab. word I chose was bellow. To bellow means to say something really loud, like what he said above.

Warriors: Power of Three: Sunrise. Pages read: 35

I'm still not done with the book yet. Weird. So in the book, a snake bit , a warrior, when she tried to push a kit out of the way so it wouldn't get bitten. Sadly, she died and everyone was sad. Firestar came up with an idea to stuff a mouse with poisonous berries so it would eat them and die. Then all of the clan leaders found out that Sol was staying in the camp. They wanted him gone so he wouldn't be a danger. If he wasn't gone by the next Gathering, they would unite against him and drive him out.

I think that Firestar will get Sol out of camp before the next Gathering. It's a pretty cool book.

The word I chose was revulsion. Revulsion is disgust. Like you have might revulsion for killing things or meat.

Warriors: Power of Three: Sunrise. Pages read: 37 I was distracted and I was reading slow.

Strangely, I have not finished the book. The patrol found Sol with a cat they met on the last long journey they made. The cat was named Purdy. They decided to take him along back home since he's really old and can't fend for himself that well. Back at camp, Jayfeather is trying to figure out what herb Leafpool, the medicine cat who is also his mentor and their aunt, fed them when they got back from the forest where they were born unexpectedly. He heard that it smelled strange and he hasn't found it yet.

This book is cool. I hope the next ones come out soon. I wonder what I'm going to read next.

The word I chose was responded. Responded means to answer someone when they talk to you or ask you a question. ex: He responded with a simple nod of his head.

Warriors: Power of Three: Sunrise by Erin Hunter. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 162

I am about halfway done with the book. A patrol went out to look for Sol and are looking for him at near the ocean by a bunch of human houses they call Twoleg nests because they call humans Twolegs and they slee and the chapter ended when they heard him. Also, Jayfeather is learning more about who gave birth to him and his littermates. He only remembers that he was born in a cold winter.

I am probably going to finish this book next time I read. I hope that it's good. The next book is also the end of the Power of Three series. I heard that there might be more books in another series to continue the Warriors series.

The word that I chose was stale. Stale means old. ex: The scent of the fox was stale. Another ex: The bread was stale.

Warriors: Power of Three: Long Shadows. Pages read: 160

I've finished the book as usual. Lionblaze overcame his fear and got the catmint and gave it to Jaypaw so that no one would now what he did. Jaypaw became Jayfeather and all the sick cats got better. Also, Squirrelflight, Lionblaze's, Hollyleaf's, and Jayfeather's mom turned out not to be their mother and only Ashfur, another warrior who's evil and wanted to hurt Squirrelflight's feelings for choosing another cat over him, know along with the three. He was about to kill them in a small fire caused by lightning when she was able to stop him by telling the secret to those four cats. On the night of the Gathering, he was going to tell everyone but they found him murdered in the lake. The only ones to know who did it are the Three. Obviously, it was Squirrelflight.

I liked this book and have the next book with me so I'm going to start it. I wonder what will happen next. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The word I chose was awkward. Awkward can mean weird or clumsy. ex: He walked away awkwardly. another ex: He said "hi" a little awkwardly. I hope those are right.

Warriors: Power of Three: Long Shadows by Erin Hunter. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 156

This is the one that comes after Eclipse. Tawnypelt, a ShadowClan cat who is also ThunderClan's deputy's sister, came with her kits who are now apprentices to ThunderClan. She said that she didn't want to stay in a clan that didn't respect their warrior ancestors so Firestar said that she can stay as long as she wants. Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jaypaw helped get ShadowClan to believe in StarClan again with StarClan's help so she didn't stay long. Also, there was an outbreak of greencough, a really bad cough that only comes in the winter and kills many cats unless if you have catmint which they ran out of. Jaypaw had a dream that their was more catmint just across the WindClan border but he can't get it because he's blind so he asked Lionblaze but he was afraid to. The sickness spreads fast so they moved them into an abandoned house, tidied it up a bit, and gave them food and medicine

I think that Lionblaze will get over his fear and get the catmint because a lot of cats are sick and about to die. I am loving this book because I like animals, adventure, and fantasy books.

The word I picked was brambles. I picked that because it's a fun word. It's more fun to say than bush. Brambles are thorny bushes or plants.

Icefire. Pages read:228 I read way to much!!!

Sadly, I have finished Icefire already. What is wrong with me!? Well, I guess I should tell you what happened. Aunty Gwyneth is really an ancient witch like person named Gwillana who wants Gawain's tear all for herself. She has Gretel put David under a spell so that she can control him and he can't think straight. The good thing is that he can talk to the dragons and see them move like Liz, Lucy, and Gwillana do. Eventually, Lorel the polar bear snapped David out of it and Gwillana tried to get the baby dragon Grockle but the wishing dragon that Lucy made for David named G'reth saved him and took him to Dr. Bergstrom. He got turned to stone because he was born without fire. Then Dr. Bergstrom decided to take Zanna and David to the Arctic later. David got to meet all of the polar bears that guard Gawain's fire tear, including Lorel. Also, Sophie had to break up with David because she has a job in Africa for a few years and long distance relationships don't work. David finally found a publisher for his book that will also do a few other books if he writes them and he's going to write a book on polar bears. Just before David and Zanna left for the Arctic, they became boyfriend and girlfriend because Zanna is funnier, nicer, and not as weird as he thought she was.

I liked this book and I am waiting for the next one to come at the library. I think that David and Zanna will find the fire tear in the Arctic. That's all that I have to say about this book. It's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The vocab. word I chose was concede. Concede means to give in to something or someone. ex. He conceded to giving her a puppy.

Icefire by Chris D'Lacey. Genre: Fantasy. Pages read: 192

This book is the book that comes after The Fire Within. David has been trying to find a publisher for the story he wrote for Lucy but he can't. Also, Lucy made a wishing dragon for David. She got to have one wish since she made it, and she wished for snow. Dragons like snow but no one knows why. A little while later, it actually started to snow! At David's college, a strange professor from the north was giving different essays to all the students but since David was late so he got an essay about dragons. Apparently, someone knew he had a dragon and the whole school found out. The professor's name was Dr. Bergstrom and he gave him a narwhal tusk with Inuit carvings to shake for good luck. When he shook it, Gadzooks popped into his head and wrote Lorel. David didn't tell the professor and went home. As soon as he left, Dr. Bergstrom told something to follow his auma and a bear popped out of nowhere and left. Liz said that auma is an ancient word for a special kind of fire that is inside everyone. Later that night, a college student that has a crush on David named Samantha, Zanna for short, said that she can help him by lending him a book about dragons in exchange for them spending time together. He agreed since he would do anything to win the essay competition and a free trip to the Arctic (that was the prize for winning the competition). On Sunday while Liz and Lucy were away, Zanna came over. She is very Gothic so she came dressed mostly in black. They talked for a bit and then she wanted to go to the Dragon's Den, Liz's studio where she makes the dragons. She made David wish that he knew the secret to the most special fire tear ever: Gawain's fire tear. Gawain was the last of the dragons ever to live. She also touched a bronze colored egg that she somehow made glow. When she was about to leave, an Aunty Gwyneth came. She took David's room so he had to stay at Henry Bacon's house. But before he left for there, he overheard Aunty Gwyneth telling Liz that the egg was now hers and it might be the next Gawain. When she started to move toward where David was, he ran upstairs. Then he overheard her in his room talking to her special potion dragon, Gretel, saying that they were going to take Gadzooks. David ran to the Dragon's Den, grabbed Gadzooks, and ran to Mr. Bacon's house

I think that Aunty Gwyneth is up to something. I also think that David and Mr. Bacon won't get along very well. Aunty Gwyneth's special dragon is pretty devious too.

The word I chose was indigence. It's just the word I chose. Indigence means a state of extreme poverty or destitution. For example, "their indigence appalled him." I got the definition and the example on worddefinition.com.

Warriors: Power of Three: Eclipse. Pages read:

I have finished the book. WindClan started crossing ThunderClan's territory and stealing prey. Lionpaw was awake in the middle of the night and saw WindClan sneaking into their camp. He howled out "Attack!" and everyone woke up and fought. They chased WindClan out of their camp but they split up and scattered all throughout ThunderClan's territory. Firestar sent out several different patrols. WindClan ambushed the patrols and ThunderClan got ShadowClan's help. Unfortunately, RiverClan helped WindClan. Eventually, it was dawn and the solar eclipse happened. Everyone thought that StarClan, the clan cat's warrior ancestors, were mad with them so they stopped fighting and went home. Then, a few days later, it was time for a Gathering, when all the clans meet under the full moon in peace. When ShadowClan came, it was only Sol and Blackstar, ShadowClan's leader. He said that he didn't believe in StarClan anymore. Everyone was shocked. After that everyone went back home and Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Cinderpaw became warriors. Their new names were Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Cinderheart.

I liked this book and can't wait for the next one. I think that other people should read this series. There are 18 books in the series, two books that are in the side, and a few manga books.

The word that caught my attention was envy. It caught my attention because it's a word that not everyone uses. To have envy means to have jealousy of someone or something.

Warriors: Power of Three: Eclipse by Erin Hunter. Genre: Fantasy Pages read:

This book is about four wild cat clans named ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan and three siblings in ThunderClan that are in a prophecy that says that they will be kin of ThunderClan's leader Firestar, and they'll hold the power of the stars in their paws. The cats are called Hollypaw, Jaypaw, and Lionpaw. Jaypaw is blind but he has a really good sense of smell, he has really good hearing, he has the power to read other cat's minds, and he's the medicine cat's apprentice. Lionpaw can't get hurt in battle and he's a warrior apprentice. Hollypaw just has an urge to uphold the Warrior Code, the cat clans' ancient set of rules, and she's a warrior apprentice too. But then a mysterious outsider named Sol comes to the ThunderClan camp and warns them that a great darkness is coming. I am about halfway done with the book.

I think that the great darkness is a solar eclipse because the title of the book has eclipse in it. It also shows a solar eclipse on the front too. So that's what I think the great darkness will be.

The word that caught my attention was ambition because it's a cool word. Ambition means to go after something that you really want. For example, my ambition is to get a good grade on this. That is what ambition means.

The Fire Within Pages read: 304 I read a LOT!! I mean a bunch! You can ask my mom if you want.

I have finished The Fire Within book since I last blogged and I am on a new book, but I will blog about what happened in the rest of the book. David got a special dragon made by Liz that he named Gadzooks and somehow, Gadzooks helps David write a story for Lucy about how Conker got another squirrel's help to save him and everything David writes comes true! Eventually David is able to catch Conker and take him to an animal hospital where they help Conker and David meets a woman named Sophie who becomes his girlfriend. Sadly, Conker has a kidney failure and no one knows how long he has to live. They say that he might live for a while or only a day. They take Conker to the library gardens where he lives for a few weeks and dies. Also, David forgets to love his dragon and it almost dies but he caught it's single fire tear and saves it.

I liked this book a lot and I'm going to read the second one soon. I liked how the author created the characters and the plot line for the story. I don't have much else to say for this part.

The word that last caught my attention was admiration. It caught my attention because you don't see that word every day. Admiration means to love something or admire it.

The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey. Genre: Fantasy. pages read: 34

This book is about a man named David who is a college student that rented a room from the Pennykettles. There was Lucy Pennykettle, who is almost eleven, and her mother who calls herself Liz Pennykettle. Lucy loves squirrels. She says that there was an oak tree in their back yard but it got cut down. After that, all the squirrels left except for one that has only one eye and can't get away. She named him Conker. Liz makes clay dragons that she places all around her house.

So far I like this book. I think that David will help Lucy save Conker the squirrel. Also, I think that something strange will go on with Liz's dragon's because on the back of the book, it says something about that.

The word "kiln" caught my attention because to make a clay dragon, you must kiln it. It's the same with clay vases and other clay creations. A kiln is like an oven to heat the clay with.
