La Relacion by Juan Suarez. Genre: Historical Non-fiction. Pgs. read: 4 (15 mins)

The words I chose are commissary, friar, insistent and proceed. A commissary is a person to whom a special duty is given by a higher authority; a deputy. A friar is a member of a usually mendicant Roman Catholic. Insistent means repetitive and consistent. Proceed means to go forward or onward, especially after an interruption; continue.

I read this in History. It's about Commissary Friar Juan Suarez and a group of people who came to America to try and live off the land. They found out they couldn't and almost died. They had to cross rivers, brave the storms and find food until they found some Native Americans who would help them find the city Apalachee, and they would help them take over the city because they don't like the Natives there. Commissary Friar Juan Suarez's group went from 300 to 4 Mr. Knarr said by the time they got to Apalachee.

I think that this is cooler than Christopher Columbus' letter because it's not exaggerated. It's a true story of how a group of Spaniards came to try and settle lands in America but couldn't live off the land. It is cool how only a few survived. I guess it's not cool how many died, but how they survived.

THE FISRT BLOG FOR THIS WEEK WAS NOVEMBER 12TH'S BECAUSE I ACCIDENTLY PUBLISHED IT.

  1. Nic, Your summary, reflection and vocab sections are complete and well done, now remember to include the time, author and pages that you read in the title bar. In the new format you need to answer a HLTQ which I will post each week starting next week. Currently, I have you down as having 10/12 posts done for this quarter. Thank you. Ms. M.
